Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our domain lookup services

General Questions

WHOIS101 is a comprehensive domain information lookup service that provides WHOIS, RDAP, DNS, and other domain-related data. We offer fast, reliable, and accurate domain information to help you research domains, verify ownership, and troubleshoot domain issues.

Yes, WHOIS101 is completely free to use. We provide unlimited access to our domain lookup tools without any registration requirements or hidden fees.

We provide real-time data from authoritative sources including WHOIS servers and RDAP registries. Our information is as accurate as the official domain registries, with data typically updated within 24-48 hours of registration changes.
WHOIS & RDAP

WHOIS is the traditional protocol for querying domain registration information, providing text-based responses. RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) is the modern replacement that offers structured JSON responses with better security, privacy controls, and internationalization support.

Some domains may show limited information due to privacy protection services (WHOIS privacy), GDPR compliance, or registrar policies that protect registrant privacy. This is normal and legal for many domain registrations.

We query authoritative sources in real-time for each lookup. However, domain registries typically update their databases within 24-48 hours after registration changes, so there may be a brief delay for very recent changes.
DNS & Technical

Our DNS lookup tool provides access to common DNS record types including A records (IPv4 addresses), AAAA records (IPv6 addresses), MX records (mail servers), CNAME records (aliases), TXT records (text data), NS records (nameservers), and SOA records (zone authority).

DNS changes can take 24-48 hours to propagate globally due to caching at various levels (ISP, local DNS servers, etc.). This is normal DNS behavior and not related to our service.
Privacy & Security

We may temporarily cache search results to improve performance, but we do not permanently store or track individual user search queries. Your privacy is important to us. See our Privacy Policy for more details.

We may log IP addresses for security and abuse prevention purposes, but this information is not used to track individual users or their search patterns. We do not sell or share this information with third parties.
